The Cantor's Voice November 2002
Shiru Ladonai-Shir Chadash/Sing unto God a new song.
Recently our 3rd and 4th grade religious school students participated in a
special workshop here in the synagogue with musician/composer Yuval Ron.
Yuval works with an organization called the Jewish Center for Culture and
Creativity.
Yuval took creative ideas from some of our students about
music and Judaism, and will be working during the month of November in Israel
to assemble some of these ideas and some his own into a new musical
composition.
The format of the program will be similar to Peter and the
Wolf, with a child from our Religious School serving as a narrator during
musical pauses in the composition. The program will last approximately 20
minutes.
The presentation of this composition will take place at Kehillat Ma'arav on
Friday evening, December 6, prior to the onset of Shabbat (approximately
4pm).
Several musicians, including our own Vanessa Duncan, 2nd grade teacher
and music teacher, will be participating. Following the program, we'll share
Shabbat services together, as well as a delicious Shabbat dinner (prepared by
our in-house caterer, Baleboste-reservations are required).
This program is open to our entire KM community -- I hope to see you at this
unique opportunity for our congregation.
