Hazzan Keith Miller
Hazzan Keith Miller has served as both Hazzan and Director of Education at Kehillat Ma’arav since 1993. After completing his undergraduate studies at Cal State Northridge and Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Hazzan Miller studied voice, liturgy and hazzanut with renowned Hazzanim Allan Michelson Z”L and Meir Finkelstein, and went on to receive his commission as Hazzan-Minister of the Jewish Faith from the Cantors Assembly in 1996.
Prior to coming to Kehillat Ma’arav he served as Cantor at Congregation Beth Shalom in Santa Clarita, CA, and as Director of B’nai Mitzvah studies at Sinai Temple in Los Angeles, CA.
Hazzan Miller was elected to the Executive Council of the Cantors Assembly in 2007. He currently serves as an officer in the Cantors Assembly Western Region, a position he has held for many years.
Hazzan Miller has served as CAWR representative to the United Synagogue Executive Committee, co-chair of the Bureau of Jewish Education’s Religious School Principal’s Council and as a member of the Board of Directors of Los Angeles Hebrew High School.
In November, 2004, Hazzan Miller was honored by the Foundation of New Jewish Liturgical Music for his original composition “Ashrei,” which was performed at the inaugural festival of New Jewish liturgical music in Maryland. Hazzan Miller is a featured artist on two CDs co-produced by United Synagogue and the Cantors Assembly, “The Spirit of Passover” and “Spirit of Israel II.”
Hazzan Miller’s CD, Ashrei, released in 2006, is an eclectic mix of liturgical music, sure to engage and inspire the listener. Hazzan Miller’s brand new single, L’Cha Dodi, is an upbeat and singable musical setting for this Friday night selection. Both are available on iTunes and cdbaby.com.
